This is a WIP wiki for the locksmith discord server.
It is intended for all the oddball little manufacturer (or even model) specific quirks you cannot find in most or any books.
You know, the kind of stuff only learned from finding out the hard way for ten+ years.
Email admin@lockshop.wiki
(or just DM Maoman on Discord) for any concerns or questions about the site itself
- No politics
- No drill points
- Use proper grammar
- Avoid using “You” or “I”; write in third person
- Do not add information to a page without confirming its accuracy first
- If you are uncertain of what terminology to use, stick to what is used by the List Council
- Avoid basic info you can find in most locksmithing books. If it exists already, don’t waste your time doing it again here.
- Unless that info is unusual or specific to a particular model, then it is appropriate. For example:
It is not necessary to list that some Fords skip space 2 in the ignition because that’s already listed on MyAutoSmart and others,
but it is a good idea to explain that some older Fords must use a glass-chip H72 such as from Ilco (rather than the usual plastic transponder pill in other keys)
because that tip is not listed in any book (that Maoman knows of—feel free to correct me).
- Another example would be:
Not necessary would be Toyota puts their key code on the passenger door lock or on the driver’s door lock if there is no passenger lock,
whereas necessary would be that Toy44D keys sometimes cause the immobilizer light to misbehave after resetting immobilizer in an AKL scenario
(the actual page would go into more detail).
See the Nissan page for a quick example of a small page along the lines of what I expect.
Click “Locksmithing” in the top left to see all the pages made so far, though most of them have no content yet, they’re just placeholders.
Click the “Lockshop” Logo in the top left to return here from any other page.
When you make a new page, you have to designate where it will be made as well. That is the “path” option at the bottom.
- First click through the menu in the left half to get to where you want the page to be.
- Then at the bottom replace “new-page” with the name of the page you are creating.
- If you want to make a new category, simply write it in and it will be automatically created, containing your new page.
- For example: if you want to make a new page within the “Other Vehicles” category, you would navigate to or type in that directory
so that the bottom read: /Locksmithing/Automotive/OtherVehicles/new-page
then you would change new-page
to the title of your new page.
- Alternatively, if you wanted to make an entirely new category within locksmithing, then you would type it in manually at the bottom:
/Locksmithing/NewCategory/NewSubcategory/new-page
replacing NewCategory
, NewSubcategory
, and new-page
as needed.
NOTE
When you are typing in new page names, the DIRECTORY at the bottom may not contain spaces.
Please capitalize your page names here to make them easier to read.
Don’t type temporarynewpage
—rather type TemporaryNewPage
instead.
Once you have the directory chosen, click “Select” in the bottom right, then click “Markdown” in the window that opens.
Now you can format your text using the exact same formatting that Reddit and Discord use.
i.e. *italics*, **bold**, __underline__, #Title, ##SubTitle and `code`.
Go ahead and hit “create” in the top right corner to ensure the page is actually made.
Now click the “page actions” icon and click “edit” to go back in and write your new article.
